Developed while working with the Blacksburg Electronic Village.

At the Blacksburg Electronic Village, we often do internal work for Virginia Tech, most of which comes from the IT Department. For most projects, we develop the design and user interface, and then pass it off to another group to do the backend of the project, as most applications have a JSP background (which we don't do).

The Virginia Tech Project Management Portfolio (PMP) was a tool originally designed for one organization within the IT Department. It was developed to help track the funding, progress, and information for various projects in the organization. However, after its release, it has since been expanded and adopted by the entire IT Department.

What features are included?

We were tasked with creating the user interface, which heavily relies on jQuery and AJAX. Features include the following:

  • Ability to filter projects by category
  • Ability to filter for specific fiscal years and/or organizations
  • Ability to search for a particular project (a modified jQuery quickSearch plugin)
  • Ability to sort the table (jQuery tableSorter plugin)
  • Ability to view additional information for a project (populates a new row in the table using AJAX)
  • Ability to create and edit entries
  • Tooltips to provide descriptions of fields (jQuery clueTip plugin)
