The Virginia Community College System

The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) is an organization of 23 community colleges, spread across 40 different campuses throughout the state of Virginia. These small colleges offer many different programs, one of which is a Geospatial Program.

What we built

Various professors in the VCCS desired a way to share resources, and collaborate with each other to help build the various geospatial programs. They wanted also to be able to share certain files with students, and keep some files private to themselves and other professors. So, we built just that for them.

Also, the professors desired a way to "advertise" their program. Each institution has the ability to place themselves on the map, and let all visitors know whether they offer a GIS Certificate Program. Visitors then have the ability to get in contact with the institution, and learn more about what they have to offer.

The VCCS site contains a private forum that only professors can access to allow for further collaboration efforts. Each resource has the ability to be rated on a five-star system, and comments can be posted as well.
