Site Redesign!

My wife says I have a case of the NERDS  - Never Ending Re-Designing Syndrome. But, the new blog is FINALLY up and going.  Here's some of the changes I added, some of which are pretty substantial.  Check it out!

First of all, I wanted to simplify and open up space, but yet make it more sophisticated.  Yes, that does sound like a contradiction.  But, it can be done.  After several weeks of sifting through "How to make a good portfolio" articles, making wireframes, mixing up color schemes, and testing, it's finally ready to go!  So... what did I do?  Here's some stuff...

New Design

Obviously, I started with a new design.  Some of the features of this design are subtle, and some are evident.  If you look at the headers with the light blue background, you'll notice a slight drop-shadow.  This is pure CSS3, not a .png file!  AND... it even works in IE!  Score!  The shadow also appears on the search box, and on the blockquotes seen throughout the site.

jQuery Wizadry

I got to try out some of jQuery knowledge in the Portfolio section.  Check out the Portfolio entries!  When you mouse over, it provides additional information.  When you go into the "More Info", there is a rotating selection of screenshots... all working with jQuery!

Spots for Advertising

Ok...it may be a while efore I have real advertisers, but hey!  Now there's room for them.  The Themeforest and DreamHost links could lead to some kickback.  So, if you need some good hosting, check out DreamHost!  If you need some good site templates, check out Themeforest!

Custom Module for Twitter

So, I wanted to put some information from my Twitter, but didn't want to use the full-fledged one that is on Drupal.org.  So, I just made my own!  It is actually quite customizable, and you can have it update whenever you like.  I  hope to write a post about that here soon, in which I'll provide the module if you want to use it.  There's a brief screenshot of the customizations available here...

RSS Feeds!

Before this version of the site, I had not a single RSS feed.  Not a single one.  Obviously, that's a problem if I want people to be able to follow the things I'm posting.  So, I've changed that.  I've got my own feeds, but I hope to port them out to FeedBurner later on.  Maybe that'll be the next release/update.  We'll see...

Featured Content Section

You might have seen the Featured Content section on the home page.  Yeah... well, that's new too.  It's a slightly modified version of the Content Slider Drupal module.  It does a great job as well!  Makes it very simple to add content to be featured!

Services Page

I decided to remove a little bit about me from this site, as I want it to be a little more on the blogging end of things.  But, I obviously still want to show what I can offer.  I've removed the "About Me" page, and combined it into the Services page.  This should help focus the site a little more.  I'll get a PDF version of my resume back on there here soon.  Keep your eye out for it!

So, that's the big changes that I can think of.  Of course, it took a good amount of time to get it all to work and come together, but I truly feel this is a much better version of my site.  So... check back often, and let me know what you think!
